Finding my XP serial number

Can anyone tell me how to find my XP serial number. I'm not looking for the product key, unless the product key is the same thing as the serial number. And can anyone give me the format of what the serial number should be, as after looking at the sticker on the side of my computer, there's a bunch of numbers listed. I don't want an actual serial number posted (so back off moderators ), just something to mark the format like XXX-XXXXX-XXXX
