    Cannot Install Norton Anti-Virus

    Hi,
I am having problems installing Norton Anti-Virus 2004, after I re-boot I get an error message saying Norton cannot load NAVoptrf.dll anf then Norton will not open. I have this same version on another computer and it installed without any problems, both computer's are running XP Pro SP2. I have searched for info on this and found other people with this problem but no solution, anyone here have any idea's?

Hi, I'll answer my own question, seems that the computer I am putting it on has a Cyrix processor and it isn't possible to install it on this, it only supports Norton 2003.

    norton antivirus-cyrix incompatability

Hi, I know you're original post was a while ago but did you find an antivirus package to work with a cyrix processor in the end? I have just encountered the same problem with Norton.

I'm sure that AVG free version, NOD 32 free, or even Avast free will work.

lynchknot, you've got it! I use to have Norton a while back (Years), and when I bought the thing at their website to upgrade they didn't send. So, I bought again and same thing. When I had it the customer service sucked. Meh, do they HAVE customer service!? Anyway, I say stay away from norton and find another company.

By the way... they would even send a confirmation thing to me telling me what I've paid for, etc... so I'm not going crazy...

Right now I am using the stuff that comes with my ISP... works perfect.

Hi, I eventually put on Norton 2003, no newer versions will work with the Cyrix processor, it is a very old computer, I didn't have any problems installing Norton 2005 on my new computer.

    Blessing in Desguise is RIGHT!!!!

Went to AVG, had WAAAAAY too many problems installing Nortons ANYTHING on some machines. Went to FAQ and support, tried every fix they offered, nothing, didn't help. I went to product support......support?????? They wanted $29.99 or $39, I'm not sure which now, after my customer JUST PAID $40 for their crap!!! I was soooo mad I swore I would never use, install, buy, reccomend Nortons anything ever again.

I do however like GoBack for the "eh hem" - newbies that buy systems from me.
Saves me MEGA frustration and free work!!!! Isn't this a Roxio product really????

    But I digress......

AVG caught ALL trojans on a customers machine......and I might add, the thing was infected with all of them WHILE NORTON'S ANTI-VIRUS WAS ON IT AND FULLY UPDATED!

Can you tell I was mad?

Anyway, I prefer AVG, its free and it works. Use Sygate Firewall as well ..... cuz NPF sucks too!

Just my 2 (ok 3) cents on Norton's
