    IE and Password Caching

After Installing SP2 and several other security features, I went online to a site where I was required to put in a password (a site a visit regularly) and I did so. I visited the site several hours later, and when the mouse pointer hovered over the password input box, a dialogue box with the password inlcuded appeared.

    Yikes!

My passwords to various sites are being cached or stored by IE and are visible whenever the mouse pointer hovers over the input box.

How do I disable this? If I cannot disable this, then by running CCleaner after each internet session will it clear these passwords?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice.

    Thanks Rev.

    Thanks for the fix Rev.
What caused this silly password caching thing? It must have been part of SP2, as I did not have this happen before. I would think that MSoft would have made this an option as opposed to a default setting requiring a registry fix, or include it in part of TweakUi for XP.

Its not on by default. You may have inadvertently put a check next to "Save this password in your password list" in the dialog box.

    Yikes!

    Rev,
You know what, I probably did check a dialogue box when it popped up, now that I think of it. Lesson Learned; Read those little boxes before clicking away.

    Thanks again, Rev.

can't disable IE password cache through regedit

When I follow the directions to add a value to the registry to disable
IE password cache by running regedt32.exe, I can navigate to the correct key but my regedit program under the "Edit" tab does not have an "Add Value" option it only has a "New" option with many suboptions after that.

So how do I "Add Value" then as described in the MSoft IE Disable Password Cache Bulletin.

    Thanks

Select Edit > New > DWORD Value.
