    Blue screen of death

Sorry in advance if this turns out to be a novel.
Didn't know if this should be put under the Win or driver.. sorry if it's in the wrong place.

Windows keeps shutting down and throwing the blue error screen in my face, saying something about device drivers causing the error. I originally thought it might have been something with my audio or video drivers because it seemed to happen while watching movies... but after updating... same problem. I reformated and still same problem.... after a few months of manual abrupt shutdowns/restarts, my hdd starts getting sluggish and then even more sluggish. Next thing i know i've got a S.M.A.R.T. warning telling me my hdd's almost gone. So i purchase a new one... get everything going and i've still got the same problem.

Is there a program that lets me hone into driver problems? Or any links, suggestions that could help me out?

It worked fine for quite a while... my roommate has the same laptop and his works fine...
I've done some googling and spent many hours trying/reading/upgrading/reinstalling.. etc... all with no avail

It could be Zone Alarm.Since the last update on one of my computers, the system reboots itself when my girlfriend plays Bookworm.
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

    First, replace the HDD.
    Second, fresh install.
    Third, problem solved.

This is the only way you can fix the problem. If you are lucky you may be able to recover any files on the old HDD after you install a new one.

Me for you. I have had to do the same.

hmmmm....obviously there is a conflict of sorts going on here....have u tried looking at your startup items and shutting everything down that u don't need running in the background?....I would start there first....find which software app has issues with what your doing.

    Oh, and zonealarm...

I'm fairly sure it's not zonealarm... I'd been running zonealarm from the start... and also have the same config zonealarm/norton on a few other pc's which run without a hitch

I updated my video drivers... and so far(3-4 days) it hasn't happened to me yet.
I'll just keep my fingers crossed for the time being...
