help from those who know....
hello:
i am trying to clone abasic xp installation using ghost
iveset the key id's to reset to make the image using sysprep.exe
this creates a clean user install
upon reboot you get prompted for user info and cd-key
i am trying to create the clean install so it would take 8min to install xp versus 1.5hours
the problem is when i extract the image to another computer
windows starts then gives the blue screen of death
i thought it would work finne and you just enter the customers id and cd-key
but thats not the case
do you know of the proper way to clone a drive to be prepared for other computers with there own key such as what ive done
m$ says this would work for cloning
but i wonder if its only for the same type of machines as the original
let me know if you can figure it out
this would save time at the shop just installing xp
cheers

When you clone a disk, you're obviously copying all the device drivers and settings from the 'source' m/c. Unless the 'target' PC is identical, you'll effectively be 'installing' a bunch of devices which don't exist. You may be able to get round round this by firing up the target m/c in Safe mode and uninstalling any non-existent devices, but it sounds like more trouble than it's worth. Might as well go for a clean install IMO.
