    http://www.moddin.net/downloads.asp

    Under "Site Stuff"

There are several templates there. Simple download one, print it out, and tape it to your case. Then using a drill, and appropriate sized bit, drill the holds. Then using a jigsaw or something similar, like a router or a dremmel tool, cut out the hole in the middle. Purchase some screen to cover the large hole and you're all set.

Should take a few hours if you are careful and cautious. Remember, it's "THINK-DO-THINK"

The screen should look like the link below:

    Big Booger:

So what about the tools needed to do this correctly? you know like the drill bit size, etc.? and is this very easy to do, what I would like to know is there any dangers of doing this your self? and also where to find the plastic cover that covers the whole around the fan you know like a side window with a fan?

That is what I'm really looking for on how to make it, is to make the side of the case a side window with fan and also I would like to know on how good is it to have a fan on top of the computer case?? please send me some more helpful information..

    Thanks again... Chears!!

    Basically, the tools needed:
    1 drill
    1 drill bit
    optional
    dremmel tool
    router

The bit size depends on the fan that you buy. Most fans come with 4 included screws. You'll need to take a look at the screws and determine what size it is. Then go down to the hardware store and pick up a bit that matches your size.

    Just a guess but I'd say it's a 1/8th in. bit.

To cut the hole in the case you can use a dremmel tool, router, or even a drill *if you want to drill several hundred holes*.

If you need a how to:

    http://www.gideontech.com/content/articles/305/1

That takes you step by step. He used some really high tech tools, but I think if you have a dremmel and a desk clap or two, you can get the same results.

You can buy pre-made fan guards here:
    http://www.crazypc.com/products/casemods/fanguards.htm

As for the dangers of doing it yourself, you can cut your finger off, slice an artery or any other number of injuries, especially if you are not very familiar with power tools. If you are safe, and cautious, the chances of injury are less.

To do this requires some patience. Prepare to do it for a few hours and be ready to take a break when you get tired.

I put my own window in a PC, and was pretty proud of the results but it took a long time and I made a huge mess in my living room (note* do this in a garage or outside)...

I think it doesn't really matter if the fan is in the top, side, etc... as long as it works and you have it set as an exhaust fan, rather than an intake fan.

you can always get hole saws , like this for a clean precise hole . its either a 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 cup for an 80mm fan but can always be measured to know exactly .

I would mark out the position of the fan , then drill it , then take one of those premade fan guards and place it over the hole and mark my screw locations to mount the fan .

You only use 2 ho9le to mount fan and opposite 2 holes to mount the guard unless you have long enuff screws for both

good luck with the case modding , and yes please be carefull , my first mod cost me 275 bux in the emergency room , metal shaving in my eye , so use saftey glasses
