Have you updated your computer completely?
IE6 doesn't work on my pc, so I use IE7 RC1. It is not perfect but in my PC works better than IE6.
Try Firefox and set it as the default browser to see if it does the same

I went through my event viewer to find out exactly when this started to try and figure out what might have caused this and found that it started the same day and right after I installed a new Lexmark X3470 All-In-One printer. Should I still try your suggestion above?

I'd remove the driver first and see if you can troubleshoot the existing issue before updating IE.
