Can not move messages to Deleted Folder

    Hi
I am running Win XP using Outlook Express 6. For some reason I can not either move messages to the Deleted Folder or delete them. This just started happening. I have run a virus scan the test came up clean.
BTW I did delete everything in my Deleted Folder but the new messages coming in can not be deleted.
    Can you help?
    Thank you for your time.

Can not move messages to Deleted Folder

Yes I did the System Restore to a point where I know I had no problems but the did not work either.
I did find a way to unconventual way of deleting my messages. I creat a new folder, move all messages to that folder, I then can delete that folder with all the messages.
It would be nice if I could go back to the correct way of deleting messages.

Close OE and navigate to the following directory.

    C:\Documents and Settings\ ~ your name ~ \Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{********-****-****-****-************}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

Inside that folder you should see a file named Deleted Items.dbx

Rename that file to Deleted Items.old

You should now be able to delete your mail from the deleted folder.

If it works you can go back to that directory and delete the Deleted Items.old file.

Can not move messages to Deleted Folder

Reverend. The Deleted Items.dbx name change may work to empty the folder but I can not get may of my messages to go into the Deleted Items Folder. I emptied the folder a couple of days ago. Since then I can not get anything to go into the folder.
Do you still want me to follow your sugestion?
    Thanks

Can not move messages to Deleted Folder

    Hi Reverend
I went to c:/Documents and Settings/Owner/ Does not have "Local Settings"
I went to /Administrator/ it does have Local Settings and Application Data but it does not have indentities.
I even went and searched files. All the entries C:/Doc etc came up as to the location of Deleted Items.dbx like you said but I can't seem to get to it.
If the folder is hidden I am not sure how to see it.

    Open Windows Explorer.

Go to Tools > Folder Options.

On the View tab put a dot next to "Show hidden files and folders".

    Click Apply.

You should now be able to see the Deleted Items.dbx

Reverend I am away from my computer for a couple of weeks. I'll give your last suggestion a try when I get back.
    Thanks

Can not move messages to Deleted Folder

Reverend I got back to my computer yesterday. I tried what you suggested. I found the file Delted Items (.dbx) changed it to .old. Your suggestion worked like a charm.
I really can't thank you enough.

One more question if I may. My computer is 5 years old it is a PC Gateway. 80gig HD. Other than the email problem I have not had any problem with it. Every once in a while it gets cranky. Should I do a clean install or just wait for something more serious? Next week I plan to boost my memory to 1Gig of RAM.
    Thanks again

All depends on your current specs and what you mainly use it for.
