    Windows Vista Dreamscenes

I have a system that cannot play the Dreamscenes content. It gives an error about either the file type being unsupported or possibly having a problem with drivers. Obviously since the Dreamscenes are MS content, I am suspecting the problem being with drivers or codecs.

The system has an N-Force MB, an Nvidia video card, and an ATI TV-Tuner, so I expect it's a problem between the video cards. Now to my question...

Does anyone know where the Dreamscenes files are stored in Vista? I had thought that they were .mpg files but a search reveals none of those, and the .WMVs on the box aren't them either. I figured to try and play the same filetype thru WMP or to play those files directly the same way, but can't find 'em.

Thanks Rev. Strange how a search for .mpg and .mpeg found no results.

Anyway, I can get those vids to play using WMP but not by setting them as the background. It always gives an error.

    Any ideas?

Try the nvidia forums. It's a known issue.

Thanks pia. I'm looking but not finding the "exact" issue, several are close tho.

    Here is the exact error:
"The video file format is not supported or there was an error decoding this video file."

Spending lots of time perusing Google...

btw: I've never tried to play the dreamscene content, just other videos/ For those, it worked, but it doesn't play sounds. And if the video's the Ex-Parrot Sketch, this is a real minus. There's a codec pack on MSFN that might help.

What format are the vids you are trying to set as backgrounds?

They are .mpgs Rev. I was thinking of changing them to .avi and just setting those to run as background but haven't tested that far yet.
