utorrent won't turn off, it freezes

I can't turn it off with the task manager either. I have to

log off windows to turn it off & other settings change. I

    tried versions 1.7.1, 1.7.2 & 1.6.1. I think something is

    wrong with my Vista.

Can I do the SFC\scannow thingy with the Vista restore

CD that came with my PC, in the RUN thingy?

    Thanks

Download and run CCleaner. Then go to the Sysinternals site. Get at least process explorer. Start utorrent.

Open process explorer. Enter utorrent in the search box. (See screenie.) Try to exit utorrent. (You have to hit file>exit. Closing the window just minimizes it.)

If it won't go away, start killing processes involved with utorrent until closes.

At the very least, this will help pinpoint the problem. Also, look through the event logs for any mention of utorrent.

Last night, I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got in my pajamas, I'll never know.

    Thanks.
When I tried closing it before, I clicked the red X in the upper right corner. Wouldn't that be the same as clicking File>Exit? It did not minimise it. It should have turned it off.

I think in uTorrent, there is an option in the preferences, that allow you to configure the Red X, to be either Exit Program or just to minimize to System Tray Icon (bit next to the clock).

I think there is a newer uTorrent version 1.7.5 (from the website it was released on Sept 11, only a few days after your post!)... It has full VISTA support, so it should work better for you.

I think I had 1.7.5. It said it was vista compatible.

I solved the problem by using Flashget for torrents.

    Thanks for replying
