The real reason Linux is more secure than Windows is because it doesn't have people writing malicious code to attack it.
Linux is more secure because it's setup in Limited User Account as default. Most people seem to be running XP in Administrator mode. XP with LUA is pretty much just as secure as Linux despite all the attacks it faces.
Vista defaults to UAC, that should do the job, unless the user is hell bent on destruction.
