I got it as I turned on my PC. I have it configured to automatically download updates and ask before installing. Works great.

I wish all software had an autoupdate feature. It would be very convenient. Linux kind of has it. You just click update and it installs the latest builds of whatever software you have installed. At least it was like that with Mandrake 8.2

I never auto-update anything. Especially from MS. Too many time the fixes needed fixing and in come cases worse. Wait until the update has been out for enough time to get feedback from "automatic updaters" then, if it's safe, get it.
As an aside you might want to keep a close eye on MS updates that have to do with digital media.

You can set it to automatically download, and the ask you if you want to install. I always check the details tab before allowing it to install. Further, it usually only auto updates critical updates.
