Defrag recommendation

I have been using Auslogs Disk Defrag for some time. It works well. The main reason that I used it was that it is much faster that the Windows build-in defrag.

Recently I found another free program that is even better. It reminds me of an old-time program called (VOPT) which is still around as version 9+. It is not a free program.

IObit Smart Defrag 1.02 does a far better job of eliminating scattered packets that remain after most defrag software has finished. It concentrates virtually all of the data at the front of the disk when using the "defrag and optimize" setting.

This is one of those time that I say, "Trust me and give it a try".

I tried it on my crappy work computer using Windows 2000. Seems to be better than the built in one.

I ran SmartDefrag on a fully defraged HD (XP defrager) and SmartDefrag said no fragmented files, moved a couple files around and thats it.

I've used PerfectDisk for years and went back to the XP defrag, don't notice a difference so XP defrag is ok in my book.

How can you tell how well a defragger defrags?

You can't, other than the Placebo effect, pick the sugar pill that has your favorite color....

If you want a good defrag program you should check out Ultimatedefrag, in my opinion its the best. Not only will it arrange everything at the beginning of the partition, you can order which folders/files to be placed at the beginning. For ultimate performance.

I tried that once before on my dad's PC. It got slower after using it.
