Some of the tapes I'm using I've had for years and they still work okay, I came across one the other day actually from about 9 year ago containing a wrestling match I recorded when my son was into WWF (thank god he grew out of that)
Aren't there some recorders that also have a hard drive aside from the DVD recording?

Yeah I'm waiting for the price of the hard drive recorders coming down before I buy one, the DVD recorder was a Christmas gift from my parents about 3 years ago
Personally I record things like ER, CSI, NCIS, Law and Order each week then sit watch them the following evening, I don't have the patience to sit through all the ad breaks which drive me bonkers.
