Where did you buy the printer, Walmart? the software may be an old version.

OK... there definitely seems to be several issues with that model of printer and also with the installation CD that came with the package.

I would try to do a complete and clean new installation.

    1. Unplug the USB Printer
    2. Uninstall all HP related programs and drivers
    3. Run the HP Removal tool that Rev suggested earlier
    4. Download the latest drivers from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...oduct=2512009# (Select the 311mb version)
    5. Install the programs and drivers
    6. reboot
    7. Now you can finally plug the USB Printer into the PC
    8. Reboot with everything plugged in and turned on
    9. Reboot just to make sure

If all this fails, you could remove all HP programs/drivers, and try:

"Here's how I finally got mine to install. I told setup I would add it later. After everything else loaded I went to control panel, printers and other hardware, and clicked add printer there. The microsoft wizard did a wonderful job of finding it, adding it, printing a test page, etc. I am using Windows XP, by the way, on a Dell, and connected through a wireless router."

Goodluck and let us know how it goes. It might actually be worthwhile upgrading for a newer All-in-one...preferrably not HP
