Windows Defender
What is the opinion here about Windows Defender that comes along with Windows 8 Pro. I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Pro and was wondering how it compares to other FREE antiviruses like, AVG, Avast, Avira etc. I also have a paid subscription for Bitdefender 2013 Total Security that I can load on two more computers. Suggestions / opinions please, Mike

I personally do not use Windows Defender so cannot give a comparison.
You might want to check how often it updates definitions. Other AV'S update daily, whereas I believe the pre Windows 8 version of Defender only updated a couple of times a week.

Hi Reverend, Thanks for the reply. Windows Defender does update daily. It also does a quick scan shortly after I start the computer. I was trying to deceide between keeping Windows Defender or reinstalling Bitdefender 2013 Total Security. From what I read especially at AV Comp. BD is usually ranked at the top or near the top compared to the popular antiviruses. When I opened up a bank account or credit card company, Bitdefender would actually open the webpage in another screen, and a keyboard from Bitdefender actually came up for me to type in the password etc. The one thing I disliked was on this one Chase credit card site, Chases would sometimes send me another security key by email. That was OK, but I could never figure out how to get back to view my emails, since Bitdefender had control. I think I will stay with Windows Defender for a while to check it out. Thanks, again, Mike
