Samsung is all set to unpack the Galaxy S22 lineup on February 9. As a precursor to its big announcement, the company has revealed some interesting information about the materials used in the new Galaxy devices.

According to Samsung, its latest Galaxy lineup uses a “new material” made of discarded fishing nets.

“The use of this material marks another step in our Galaxy for the Planet journey that aims to minimize our environmental footprint and help foster more sustainable lifestyles for the Galaxy community,” Samsung wrote in a news release.

The company hasn’t disclosed just what percentage of this new material makes up the upcoming Galaxy S series phones. Leaks have suggested that the devices are largely clad in metal and glass.

“These discarded fishing nets are disrupting the delicate balance of our environment at an alarming rate. Collecting and repurposing these nets are vital first steps in keeping our oceans clean as well as preserving the planet and our collective future,” the company said, adding that it will reveal more information about the new material at its launch event.
