Samsung Offers Free Temporary Cloud Backup for Galaxy Devices
Samsung's new feature for certain Galaxy devices—Temporary Cloud Backup—will back up files like photos, videos, and items in your Secure Folder over Wi-Fi to Samsung's servers as long as you have a Samsung Account.
Those files are saved for up to 30 days from the date when you first uploaded them and you will receive a notification before the files are automatically deleted.
On top of that, Temporary Cloud Backup is free and there is no limit to that cloud storage except individual files cannot exceed 100GB. Files that are eligible to be backed up must be local to the device and cannot be stored on an external device like a microSD card.
The company says this feature provides peace of mind when your device is being repaired or you need to reset your phone entirely. Backed-up data can also be used to restore your data when you are setting up a new Galaxy phone. Even if you skip that restoration, the backup can still be accessed in Maintenance Mode.
This feature will be coming to all Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets that run One UI 6 this fall; The first devices to get Temporary Cloud Backup are Galaxy S and Z phones in Korea.
