    Question Email to fax

I performed a search, "email to fax" on this board and returned this response: "The search term you specified (fax) is under the minimum word length (4)"

I would like to send a FAX to Japan via Email. I searched google and became impatient - there are some that no longer link and some that u need to download something - others are just a toll free (receive?) number, etc.

Is there anyone with experience with this? I want to, preferably, send it for free - if possible. Thanks! -

Advanced query: Join words with AND, OR and NOT to control your search in more detail.
Add asterisks (*) to use wild cards in your search (*bullet* matches vBulletin etc.)

USE THE * to search for a three lettered term:

    fax*

that will find any and all words with FAX in it.

    Now about your FAX issue:

    Try this site:

    Hope it helps.

Also, XP has a built in FAX system.
I posted this a while back:

Thanks BB, i'll try the first. This PC is not hooked up to a phone line.

*edit - seems more trouble than it's worth - there is a fax machine here, I just thought I could do it for free! Oh well, thanks anyway BB -

I found that, but it is rather complicated.. but it appears 100% free. You just need a client software for remote printing..

but I mean after you get it setup and learn how to do it, it should work flawlessly for you, I think. If you fax a lot this could save you quite a bit of money over the long run.

I looked at it and.................it looks too complicated - besides, all I had was that one fax.

I don't know why, but I don't like to read instructions - hehe - I rarely look at help files nor do I even crack open any "owners manuals" It probably would save me some time to read about it - if I could understand it in the first place - but i'm always in such a hurry to use it - whatever it is.

There are tutorials for building Mozilla (Phoenix) themes but I could not understand it - but taking the browser apart made it easy to understand how it works.

Send a FAX by e-mail Other Languages: English, Italian, German

An experiment started in June 1993 now makes it possible to send a FAX (for free) to many different parts of the world by using internet e-mail. Any e-mail software can be used to send a text mesage, however formatted documents with fonts and pictures require a more sophisticated e-mail utility. (read our Client Software page for more information on this topic)

Before you begin, use our Check Coverage page to verify the area you wish to send a fax to is covered by the TPC Probject.

To send your fax via e-mail, start your mail software and compose a new e-mail message.

    The Address Format:
    remote-printer.recipient_name@fax_number.iddd.tpc.int

    recipient_name fax_number
Use the name of the recipient you wish to have on the coversheet.
The character '_' is converted to a space
The character '/' is converted to start a new line
Do not use long distance and international access codes
Begin with country code (1=USA, 44=UK, etc)
    Strip out punctuation characters
Maximum number of digits is 15

    An example:
    remote-printer.Arlington_Hewes/[email protected]

This will send a fax to the number 495-968-2590 (the first '1' at in the fax number is the country code for the USA)
The coversheet will look like this:

    Please deliver to:
    Arlington Hewes
    Room 403

The message content of the e-mail follows on separate pages of the fax transmission. An e-mail message will be sent back to you confirming the fax was sent, or information about any problems.

    Another example:
    remote-printer.Darren_Nickerson/[email protected]

Note the use of "44" for the UK Country code. This address will send a fax to +44-1813434622, with the name "Darren Nickerson" and "Room 403" on the coverpage. If you need assistance with international country codes, this website has a complete country code list.

Tip: this type of e-mail to fax will generate pages aproximatly 80 characters wide using 11 point courier font. Ascii graphics and special characters may or may not look correct when faxed. Keep your text simple

That is rather simple Lynchknot. All you do is start up your email program, outlook works nicely, the in the address, use the example and add your own information,
just change the fax number, name etc..

    then send it.

Can't get any easier than that...

The above is used if you are only sending text, if you want to send graphics, or anything else besides text you will need a special software.

I am going to test it just to see if it works

    hehehe

    UPDATE:

I just tried this, and it seems the coverage area is limited. This is the response i got:

    **MESSAGE FROM THE TPC.INT SINKHOLE**

We regret to inform you that the phone number you attempted
to reach is not currently being served by a remote printer
operator. Your original message is attached so that you may
    send it by alternative means.

We hope to have coverage in this area -- perhaps
you know somebody who could operate a remote printer server?
Does your ISP provide fax coverage in your local area? If not,
perhaps they would benefit by setting up a fax server and
joining TPC.INT. Speak with your ISP and show them why they
might want to come online as a TPC "cell":

So check the coverage area before attempting to fax using that service.
    I tried at least

    Sorry.
