To re-install the latest Internet Explorer v. 6

What is the best way to do this on a single laptop usingXP pro. I know how to uninstall but what is the best way to install it again or should i say "re-install"?

<I hate to spend much time doing this. (don't we all?) >

    thanks

i did find/see that recommendation before i posted.

i was sort of hoping for some sort of miracle or easier way.

< hey, i am still believer in the computer fairy... where you put an old program under your pillow and out comes a clean re-install >

    miracles anyone.....

I like Method 2: Edit the Registry and Install Internet Explorer 6.

    That should do the trick!

    i may be crazy but..

here's the reason i want to put a fresh ie 6 install.

i noticed on one website (cnn.com) there are 2-3 links in the main page, i get a 404 error but almost all the rest of the links seem to work fine. if i use Opera- those same links work perfectly. this does not seem to happen to other websites..

so i wonder if this 404 error is an indication of future problems

    and so should i bother?
there is a saying.. if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

would i create new problems by a reinstall of ie6?
or should i just forget it and live with it?

    any thoughts out there?

Have you tried dumping your cookies and temp files in IE, and then going back to CNN?

Might work, then again it might be a waste of time.

Have you tried restoring IE default settings.
Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab >Restore Defaults button.

Also delete your temporary internet files. The CNN pages you are having problems connecting to may be cached corruptly on your machine.
Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Delete files button.

i did not even bother with clearing the cache cause i did that before.

quick question- what was your reasoning to get that solution?

yep- the resetting did it all... i monitored the settings before and after and nothing was changed but it did solve the problem.

Restoring defaults should always be the first thing anyone tries when they have a problem with IE.Thats one of the reasons why m$,in their infinite wisdom, give you the restore defaults option.

Even though it may appear you are already running IE at default, there are a lot of programs, and site pages that alter hidden settings without you realizing it.
