    Arrow xp security

i'm working with xp pro. i can't open a link when it refers directly to an .exe file on a ftp-server. i always have to log on to the ftp-server and then copy the .exe file to my harddisk to open it. how do i adjust this security measure?
it isn't always possible to log in to an ftp-server without a login name and password, so some files are just unreachable for me while they should be reachable for every one...

    sorrel welcome to Techzonez.
Unfortunately ftp servers tend to have different levels of security.
Some require a username and password and some don't.
When you download a file try right clicking the link and select "save target as".
I would also recommend you use some kind of download manager.

I use Download accelerator which you can get here; DAP

    The FTP problem.

Most server will disable "execute" priveledges and that is what you are trying to do by double clicking on it.

You generally have read access to it and once on your PC it becomes read/write/execute

    Thanks
