Well losing that ability hardly warrants a reformat. That would be like replacing an entire car door because the lock doesn't work.

Someone suggested I look at this reg key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Under that I found this:
He suggested that I backup and delete the entry - all it fine now!!!!!

Good job LK, might I suggest that before you do any tweaking or changes in the future that you back up your registry before hand. Makes things easier to fix
BTW as long as it took you to find the fix you could have formated 4 times...hehe J/K

Sure, i could have formatted 4 times but it would take me a week to return my desk and apps/settings/games to normal.

Break out the champaine!!!
Lynchknot you are becoming an experiemced user and you have taught us all something new!
very few people are able to track down a cure for something this difficult and i am glad to say that you have graduated to the next level!
can we get Microsoft to email Lynchknot a beta version of Longhorne?

hehe - as much as i'd like to take credit, I cannot. All I did was insist there must be a registry cure and put the word out. Luckily, someone with vastly more knowledge than I responded.

The question now is what did you do that changed the default NoActiveDesktop binary data.It wouldn't have changed values by itself.
Its good that you found a fix,but its even better if you can work out why the problem arose in the first place.

Well, hopefully for your next trick, someone will have a registry cure for it as well.
Also, make sure to increase the size of your system restore back to above 1GB. So you can have the option of undoing anything you ever happen to do, that cannot be fixed with a simple registry edit.
