even more right click menu problems

To go along with my inability to choose programs with "open with" menu, I do not have the ability to extract rar files as well. Clicking on it does nothing. Does anyone have a solution? thnks.

Sheesh! Looks like you'll have to forget about right cliicking on anything. Did you put 3.0 in there or some such?(memories!)

With all these rt click probs it does look like a format. Dirty word, I know but.............................. It's probably just some simple association fix in the Registry.

I'm having to double click and opening the jar instead - then dragging the files out.

I have also experienced problems extracting rar files. I finally got to the point that if it isn't a zip file, I leave it alone. I may be missing out on some good files, but I am experiencing a lot less frustration.

    a shot in the dark,

    try this, click start,
    click run,
    type:

    sfc/ scannow

make sure your XP disk is handy. I doubt this will work, but you never know.

    ALSO TRY BELOW:

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...t_datfiles.asp

Booting to the last known good configuration might fix this as well.

Will scannow remove all my tweaks and reset all my settings?

System restore did not work. I am able to click a zip file and use winrar to unzip them through right click but I can't do the same with rar or jar files.

Open WinRAR and click Options > Settings. On the Integration tab make sure RAR and JAR files are selected under "Associate WinRAR with" . On the Viewer tab enable "Associated program"under Viewer Type. Hit OK.

LK i'm positive that something you've installed has messed with your file associations. You've got to trace back and work out what you installed to kill everything...then destroy the CD with that software on it

I think a good idea would be to install XP from scratch then load your "tweak" apps one by one and create regular restore points...that way, then the s*it hits the fan, you can revert your settings.
