Unable to install Security Update 810833

    Hello-

I am updated on WinXP, apart from one Critical Update that I am unable to install: 810833. My system repeatedly is unable to install this.

If I to to the WinU temporary folder created for this file and run the self-extracting program for the update, I get msg "#Q810833 Setup Error":

"Setup could not verify the integrity of the file Update.inf. Make sure the Crytographic Service is running on this compuer."

Of course this service is running on the computer and my search on MS Knowledgebase didnt' provide any insight?

    Suggestions welcome. thx.

    Welcome to Techzonez.

    Go to Start > Run.
    Type cmd, and hit enter.
At the command prompt, type the following,(hit enter after each line)

    net stop cryptsvc

    ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 oldcatroot2

    net start cryptsvc

Exit from the command prompt, and reboot.

Now you should be able to install the update.Direct link for the update here

Thx Reverend. I'm sorry to say, I had a few other problems, and I just "couldn't take it anymore." I just decided it would be easier to start over...hence reformat & reinstall. I really appreciate the comments, though.

Sometimes "Reformat" is the best solution of all.
