    Bypass modem ?

I'm trying to run DSL on my win98 machine.

Apparently I have some problem with the Dial up Network files or somethng.

When discussing this with someone they mentioned that I might be able to
just go directly thru the DSL and not go via the Dial up and the Modem ...

They said something like go to i.e. tools or under connectivity and choose
    "never use dial up"

When I went there I did't seem to have that option, I could select "use LAN or connect directly" I tried this but it didn't seem to work.

So back to the origianl question can and how do I bypass the dial up and or modem ?

I installed a DLS system last week and think I have a solution for you. The previous dial-up connection was a problem initially.

Right click on My Computer. Double click on Network Neighberhood. Right click on your old dial-up setup and then delete. Reboot. Then go to your browser and enjoy.

yeah under internet options below your dial up connections...you should see 3 options never dial a connection....dial whenever a network connection is not present ....always dial my default connection and you should have a dot in never dial.

I think that Windows 98 doesn't natively connect to DSL. You need to download RASPPPOE:

Wow, I'm getting quite a variety of responses.
So do I need to go the Raspppoe route ?

p.s. when I go to the internet connection those 3 options
aren't selectable, the only thing that I can select is the LAN
    option I believe.

Seems like you do, i had to instal WinPoet on my win98 laptop for direct DSL connection, else you could use a router and simple TCP/IP settings.
