    Copy MSN video

I just viewed a short 5 minute video on Afghanistan on MSNBC. Since my son is over there with the 10th. Mountain Division, I would like to copy the video to a disc. for him. Is there a way to do that, and if so, kindly advise.
I am running XP Pro, and I have that Nero burning software program on my computer. Many thanks !!

Hmm... this is a little tricky because they use streaming media, its not really a file you can download. The basic idea to record, is you have to stream it, and use video capture to record it. You can check the source of the web-page to find out what format the stream is in ie mms or asf or real player etc. Then you should be able to find some freeware on the Net to record *cough* asf *cough*

Then you can just burn as VCD (not sure) but definitely as data cd

    hope it works

    edit:
ask rev if its allowed to 'guide' you thru the process?

Hi BB, I downloaded one of those programs and folloed the directions, but was unable to get anything. If you or anyone could download the 4 minute video and send it to me, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Mike

    Here you go mike13:

If that doesn't get you to directly download the file.

    Try this one:

    http://techzonez.no-ip.org

Then get in your folder and download the file.

Big Booger , I got it. I burnt it to a CD, and now I can send it over to my son so he and his buddies can view it on his laptop. This site is the greatest, but only because of people like yourself, who go the extra mile to help someone. My son and myself thank you !!! Mike

Glad to have helped. If you are ever wanting to do this again.. there are some simple steps you can do to get the file.

First get a copy of WM Recorder (windows media Recorder)
    http://www.wmrecorder.com/index.php

Then, if the video is more than 2 minutes you'll need to purchase a license. If you only need 2 minutes your all set.

    Next,
Load the video in your browser and let it play to the end.

Then you'll have to find the .DAT file that was saved in your internet Temp Folder.

Right click that .DAT file, and click properties. The highlight the URL of the DAT file. ANd copy that into the WM recorder program. Then hit the record button.

After it is recorded, you should have a perfect copy that you can burn to CD.

thats a nice little app BB. And good that it uses the .dat file, instead of directly streaming.
