IE7 has an identity crisis
Our copy of IE7 has apparently decided that it's actually IE6. During attempts to repair/recover a damaged OE6, SWMBO did a reinstall of IE7. It did not install any shortcuts and has lost its tabs. There is also no tabs box in Options to turn on tabbing. About and Help are both IE7. Anybody know what's up here?

Could have been caused by you running the "sfc /scannow" command as detailed in your OE thread. Some IE7 files have probably been overwritten by older IE6 versions.
Download IE7 from here and try another reinstall.

The IE7 reload was after the scannow. Brief history of events: Beloved one upgraded PayPal virtual debit card (through resident utility, not email link). OE6 stopped showing messages. After usual restarts & reboot tried regsvr32 without results. Followed with scannow, again no results. Atempted unload and reload of OE through Add/Remove programs (advice from another forum) -- no change to OE, but lost all IE icons and turned off Quick Launch. Reenabled QL and all its icons were reordered, no apparent rhyme or reason. Following method from MS, turned off IsInstalled key for OE6 and went to MS update to reinstall IE. Wifey got nervous about losing bookmarks so did install of IE7, hoping for concurrent OE6 download. This was done through Firefox because of missing IE icons. OE did not reregister and locked up browser when attempted. Reset IsInstalled to 1 and OE was still out. Meanwhile, I found IE7 through Explore and started it. That's when the new trouble started. Toolbars were all out of position and no tab bar. About said ver 7, help said ver 7. Options knows nothing of tabs. She tried again from MS update through IE with no change.
What we need: OE6 fixed, IE7 fixed, Favorites intact, OE message rules preserved if possible. I have all other OE data backed up and transferred to another machine for temp use.

System Restore to before the "upgrade" was performed.
