The NVIDIA RTX 3080 Is Bidding for Over $80,000 USD on eBay

Sep 18, 2020 - 7:27 AM - by Reverend
NVIDIA’s RTX 3080 went on sale September 17 and instantly sold out upon release. However, many buyers have already put the highly coveted graphics card on eBay for absorbent selling prices. There are even some currently bidding on an RTX 3080 Founders Edition for $80,600 USD.

Although many speculated the product would be in short supply until the tail-end of 2020, none expected it would get so much attention. As of now, the eBay listing has been taken down. But there are some listings going as high as $60,000 USD with 81 bids and 68 watchers.

Most notable about most of these pricy bids is that folks are bidding to purchase someone else’s pre-orders from retailers rather than the physical card already in the seller’s possession. One of these pre-ordered GPUs have already sold for $50,000 USD soon after the card debuted at $699 USD retail.

It is still suggested that potential buys keep a lookout on NVIDIA’s RTX 3080 hub page, where additional information for pricing and availability will be updated.

AT&T's Warner Bros Games unveils Harry Potter role-playing game

Sep 17, 2020 - 9:53 AM - by Reverend
AT&T Inc’s Warner Bros Games on Wednesday unveiled a Harry Potter game, “Hogwarts Legacy,” that will let players experience life as a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1800s.

The role-playing videogame, developed by Disney Infinity developer Avalanche, will release next year for Microsoft Corp’s Xbox Series S, Series X, and Xbox One consoles, as well as Sony Corp’s PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, and PC.

Players can “grow their magical abilities by mastering spells, brewing potions and taming fantastic beasts,” Warner Bros Games said. The game will include familiar locations such as the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village.

The game was announced during Sony’s PlayStation 5 live stream event, where the Japan-based firm said that its next-generation console would launch in November priced at $499.99 and $399.99 for a version without a disk drive.

Microsoft had said last week Xbox Series X would go on sale on Nov. 10 priced at $499.99 with the less powerful Xbox Series S priced at $299.99.

The pricing announcements set the stage for a year-end showdown between Xbox and PlayStation, as consumers continue to flock to gaming optimized consoles offering exclusive titles.

Facebook, Ray-Ban Team Up on Smart Glasses

Sep 17, 2020 - 9:51 AM - by Reverend
Facebook will release its first pair of smart glasses next year, and they'll act as a stepping stone to full augmented reality devices, which can overlay virtual objects into your field of vision, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said at Wednesday's virtual Facebook Connect event.

To build the smart glasses, Facebook is partnering with EssilorLuxottica SA, the French-Italian eyewear company behind Ray-Ban and Oakley sunglasses. Zuckerberg says Facebook's smart glasses will come in different models and configurations.

Zuckerberg did not get into specific features. But with full AR, you’ll be able to see digital notifications and mapping directions in front of you, removing the need to constantly pull up your smartphone. An onboard AI will also adapt to your surroundings to display information it believes you'd find interesting.

However, Facebook acknowledges it’ll take some time before the tech industry achieves anything close to true AR, so don’t get your hopes up for some game-changing hardware in the immediate future. The cautionary tale is Google Glass, which arrived in 2013 to much hype only to disappoint with its obscenely high price, short battery life, and minimal use cases.
