    it will say
    dvd/dc-rom drives

    it should be in device manager.

    do the drives show up in the bios?

    if it shows in the bios it is a windows problem.

    i had a problem last year with my drives not working but i had yellow exclamation marks.

    i did the fix Reverend suggestion but It did not work so I deleted the whole string which windows quicly said you couldnt and it deleted molst values in the key

    i rebooted and my drives came back and installed themselves.

    you do not have then in device manager and i suggest checking your computers bios menu to see if they detect.
